Man Sentenced to Six Months in Jail for Abusing Child
Wednesday morning, Murdolph Jones III, 41, was sentenced to six months in jail following a no contest plea and conviction of child abuse without great bodily harm.
According to the arrest report, in December 2024, the victim, who had visible bruising and swelling on his face, told police that Jones had "disciplined” him for getting into trouble at school. The victim said Jones hit him in the face with a belt.
The victim did an interview with the Child Advocacy Center where he went into more detail about the abuse and described Jones as "already angry at the time because he was late for work.”
At the time of the report, the victim's injuries were ten days old and still visible and healing.
After his jail sentence, Jones will begin serving a term of two and a half years of probation.
Under the conditions of his plea agreement and probation, Jones cannot have any unsupervised contact with minors and cannot administer corporal punishment against any minors. Jones is required to complete a Department of Children and Families (DCF) family plan and a batterer’s intervention program (BIP). Jones cannot contact the victim until he successfully completes a parenting class and attends at least two BIP classes.
