Man with Two Prior Florida Prison Sentences Back in Jail for Domestic Aggravated Assault
Wednesday morning, Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officers arrested Curtis D. Jackson II, 50, and charged him with domestic aggravated assault for threatening a woman with a firearm.
In the days leading up to the incident, Jackson and the victim began temporarily staying at the witness’ residence because they’ve been facing homelessness.
The victim told police that Jackson woke her up around 7:00 a.m. and said he misplaced something and could not find it.
Jackson reportedly told the victim he would “rob and even kill someone so he could eat.” She told him to not talk that way. Based on the arrest report, Jackson then told the victim, who is pregnant, that he was "going to jail today for killing a pregnant woman." Jackson then reportedly took out a firearm and pointed it at the victim's face. The victim ran out of the residence and called 911.
The victim described the firearm as a small black handgun with a leather covering. She said that Jackson put a “small clip” in the gun before pointing it at her.
The victim told police she she also feared for the witness, who was present in another room of the residence.
Ofc. Adam Abouzid reported, "It should be noted that [Jackson], a twelve time convicted felon, was involved in a similar incident recently involving threats with a firearm on [April 8, 2026]… GPD Case Report number 02-26-005409. In that investigation, several parties advised they observed [Jackson] in possession of a firearm. However, all parties did not want to be victims of a crime.”
GPD made contact with the witness who gave written consent to search the apartment for the alleged firearm. The witness told police that Jackson was staying on the living room couch and didn’t have access to other rooms.
GPD didn’t find the gun in the living room and attempted to search the adjacent kitchen when the witness withdrew their consent for a search and asked the police to leave their apartment.
Abouzid reported, "[Jackson] stated he and the victim got into a verbal argument this morning over money. [Jackson] stated he bought the victim food last night from Burger King, though he doesn't have much money. [Jackson] stated he had an appointment this morning with Meridian and wanted the victim to come with him. [Jackson] stated he told the victim he only had enough money to get them to Meridian but would not be able to afford to buy anything after that. [Jackson] stated the victim began to question him regarding the events that occurred on [April 8, 2026]… That is when the victim became upset and left the apartment. When I asked [Jackson] if he pointed a firearm at the victim, he stated no. [Jackson] denied ever having a firearm.”
Based on the April 8 incident, and Wednesday’s incident, Jackson “has shown to be increasing in his volatility,” reported Abouzid.
Prosecutors intend to file a motion to hold Jackson without bond.
Jackson has served two prison sentences in Florida, one in the early 2010s for domestic battery by strangulation, and the next in the early 2020s for arson.

Months after he completed his arson sentence, Jackson was arrested on a felony battery charge for allegedly throwing soda at a woman in a dating violence incident. It was alleged that Jackson and the victim were standing on opposing sides of their vehicle when Jackson threw the soda over the vehicle to hit the victim.
An officer reported observing "where the soda impacted on the victim's upper right shoulder area," and that the "directional streaks" showed the soda was thrown. Jackson alleged that the soda fell on the victim when she drove away.
Prosecutors dropped the case. However, Jackson was convicted of violating a no contact order with the victim and sentenced to 60 days in jail with 58 days of credit for time served.

Regarding the arson incident, Jackson was initially charged with three counts of attempted homicide but only convicted of arson.
