New York Man Convicted of Domestic Violence, Possessing Firearm as Convicted Felon, Failing to Appear and More, Sentenced to Two Years in Florida Prison
On July 28, Allen Lawrence Leroy, 34, was convicted of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, domestic battery, resisting an officer without violence, smuggling contraband into a detention facility and failing to appear.
Facing up to 27 years in prison, Leroy took a no-contest plea deal that was accepted by Judge James Colaw, in which he was sentenced to two years in prison followed by three years of probation. Court documents indicate the victim agreed to the plea deal. As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors dropped an additional charge Leroy was facing for possessing a firearm as an out-of-state felon.
On September 24, 2025, Leroy screamed at the victim before reportedly strangling her several times, impeding her breathing. He was initially charged with domestic battery by strangulation but prosecutors later downgraded the charge to a misdemeanor. Leroy went on to slam the victim onto the ground. The victim was able to get away by biting and kicking Leroy.
The victim had a red mark on the side of her neck.
As the incident was ongoing, the victim was on Facetime with her brother. He screen-recorded what he observed and told police he heard Leroy beating the victim.
Leroy resisted officers’ attempts to arrest him and they detained him on the ground. He was also found to have a firearm in the residence despite a felony conviction for burglary out of Sullivan County, New York. Leroy has additional misdemeanor convictions from New York for driving under the influence, resisting an officer without violence, selling an alcoholic beverage to a minor, possession of less than 20 grams of cannabis and trespassing.
Leroy admitted to putting his hands on the victim’s shoulders and slamming her, and also said he got the gun from a private seller. Leroy denied strangling the victim and said he doesn’t beat her.
Leroy was released the following month on a $55,000 bond.
In March 2026, Leroy failed to appear in court as required and a warrant was issued. According to court documents, he was arrested in Sullivan County, New York on March 30, 2026, but the charges are unclear. Leroy was booked into the Alachua County Jail again on June 3, 2026.
On June 4, 2026, after first appearance, a substance identified as methamphetamine was found on Leroy’s person. Deputy Taylor Davidson reported that new arrestees are placed through a scanner and that jail staff said nothing indicated Leroy had narcotics at the time.
As part of the plea agreement, Leroy cannot have any contact with the victim and he will be required to complete batterers intervention.
Leroy is currently held at the Florida Department of Corrections Reception and Medical Center.
