Norick Liu Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison for Crimes Against Children
Press Release from the Internet Crimes Against Children Division (ICAC) of the Gainesville Police Department (GPD)
On September 14, 2023, members of the Gainesville Police Department arrested Norick K Liu, 58, for Solicitation of a Minor, Traveling to Meet a Minor and Unlawful Use of a Two Way Communication Device.
This was after Li was engaging in sexually explicit conversation and traveled to meet our undercover investigator whom he thought was a 13 year old child.
A subsequent investigation by the GPD ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children) Division revealed that Liu was sharing and soliciting sexually explicit images with a 17 year old child. Liu additionally made plans to meet with this child but the child became uncomfortable with Liu's advances and ultimately stopped talking to him.
The child believed that Liu, who was 57 years of age during their communication, was in his 20s. Liu would be charged for these offenses in January of 2024.
On April 25, 2024, Liu entered a plea to two (2) counts of Directing or Promoting Sexual Performance by a Child and four (4) counts of Possession of Child Pornography. Liu was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment followed by eight years of sex offender probation.
