Press Release from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office:
During the afternoon of May 22, 2025, DS F. Williams responded to SE CR-234 regarding a reported armed disturbance.
The victims informed law enforcement that they had gone to clean a residence they currently own in preparation for selling it. Upon entering the residence, they encountered the suspect, 81-year-old John Webb. The victims advised Webb that he was not supposed to be there. In response, Webb drew a revolver from his pants and fired a single round into the ceiling.
As the victims retreated from the structure, Webb stated, “No, don’t move; you got to die first.” He then followed them outside and fired multiple rounds at their vehicle as they attempted to flee. Several rounds struck the vehicle, disabling the engine and causing it to stop in the middle of SE CR-234.
Webb left the scene in his vehicle but was later intercepted by deputies. A high-risk traffic stop was conducted, and Webb was detained without incident.
Based on video evidence, victim statements, and an interview with Webb, he was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault and Attempted Murder.
