Press Release: Congressional Candidate to Host “Defending Democracy” Independence Day Concert at Bo Diddley Plaza
Press Release from Mike Klein, Independent for Congress Campaign:
GAINESVILLE, Florida (Monday, June 29) — As the United States marks 250 years since its founding, the Gainesville community will gather at Bo Diddley Plaza for a “Defending Democracy” Independence Day public concert featuring live music, food trucks, speakers, voter registration, and local organizations.
The event will honor the rights won by generations of Americans and the duty of citizens to defend democracy, protect freedom, and renew the promise of a government that belongs to its people.
The concert will run on Saturday, July 4, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in downtown Gainesville and is expected to attract attendees from throughout North Central Florida.
The evening will open with Creative Vibes, led by Li Diddley, grandson of the legendary Bo Diddley. The Gainesville-based funk, R&B, and soul band brings powerful vocals and high energy to the stage.
The popular Gainesville-based Thomas Allain Band will follow as the main stage act, with classic rock favorites.
During the evening, Mike Klein will formally announce his campaign for Congress as an Independent candidate for Florida’s 3rd Congressional District.
“The liberty we celebrate on Independence Day was secured by ordinary citizens who refused to let power remain in the hands of the few,” Klein said. “That spirit is needed now. I am running as an Independent because Florida’s 3rd District deserves a representative free from party bosses, corporate donors, and foreign interests. My obligation is to the people who live here. My duty is to take on the forces making life harder for working families, to restore trust in government, and to help build a safer, healthier, more prosperous future for our children.”
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
