Repeat Offender Serving Five Year Prison Sentence for Felony Battery

On April 21, 2025 Vincent Peterson took a plea deal accepted by Judge James Colaw in which he was convicted of felony battery by a repeat offender and hindering 911 communications. He was sentenced to five years in prison with 200 days of credit for time served. Peterson did not post bond as his case was ongoing.
This is Peterson's 12th Florida prison sentence.


Vincent Donnell Peterson, 64, was arrested on Friday and charged with domestic battery by strangulation and hindering 911 communications.
According to the arrest report, Peterson grabbed the victim's face during an argument, injuring her lip. Peterson then placed his leg on the victim's neck, obstructing her ability to breathe. Peterson grabbed the victim's phone after she said she was going to call the police.
Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) Deputy Tommy White Jr. reported that Peterson said the victim was “making this all up” despite her having injuries consistent with the allegations.
Peterson has 28 felony adjudications, with four being violent.
The State Attorney's Office filed a motion of pretrial detention on Peterson but Judge James Colaw denied it and set the bond at $100,000.
