UFPD Arrests Man for Stalking

Update | September 8, 2026: Steven Shahan was not convicted of aggravated stalking but he was later adjudicated guilty for misdemeanor counts of violating pretrial release conditions and domestic violence.

Updated December 31: Shahan was released on recognizance on December 20 due to the State Attorney's Office not filing formal charges. Shanan was arrested again nine days later for contacting the victim, and is currently being held on a $175,000 bond

Steven David Shahan, 54, was arrested Tuesday night and charged with aggravated stalking.  

University of Florida Police Department (UFPD) Officer Victor Beguiristain reported that the victim told Shahan to leave her alone and that she wants nothing to do with him. 

Shahan responded over text, “That’s why I want to knock your head off and call you every fucking name under the sun.” 

While the victim was in the hospital for a confidential reason, Shahan showed up to her room without her consent. Shahan reportedly looked at the victim like he wanted to harm her. 

Nursing staff called for security, and Shahan fled the scene. Shahan was arrested a day later. 

Shahan and the victim only resided together because Shahan reportedly refused to leave when she asked. 

The victim advised of two other recent incidents where Shahan made threats of death or bodily harm against her.

In June 2022, Shahan was arrested for drug possession after reportedly choking the victim, but she chose not to press charges.
