Alleged UF Rapist Posts Bond After Judge Denies Pretrial Detention Motion
Alleged rapist Andrew Glenn Shaffer, 19, has been released from the Alachua County Jail.

Alachua County court records show state prosecutors wanted to keep Shaffer in jail through the duration of his case, but their request was denied by Judge Robert Groeb on Monday and he was released within the next 24 hours.

If Shaffer contacts the victim in any way, directly or indirectly, physically or electronically, he could go back to jail for violating his pretrial release conditions. Shaffer’s pretrial release conditions also prevent him from possessing or consuming drugs and alcohol.
On September 24, Shaffer, a University of Florida (UF) student who’s since been trespassed from campus, brought the victim to his dorm room, encouraged her to drink alcohol, and then raped her while she was unconscious, the arrest report states. Before the victim passed out, Shaffer reportedly asked her if she wanted to have sex, and she said no.
The victim told police she woke up confused and wearing Shaffer’s shirt with hers pulled down. Shaffer walked into the room and asked the victim “if she was going to get a Plan B?” The victim asked why, and Shaffer told her they “had sex.” The victim told Shaffer, “No, we did not,” and said she couldn’t remember.
Later on, Shaffer made further confessions over Snapchat and Venmoed the victim $50 for Plan B. Shaffer reportedly acknowledged the victim said no and said, “What happened wasn’t right.”
Shaffer told UF police that he and the victim had “sex” that was “consensual.” Shaffer reportedly said he “couldn’t remember a lot of things that happened that night” but made differing statements to police when confronted with the Snapchat messages that the victim screenshotted. Shaffer admitted that he sent the Snapchat messages.
Shaffer was arrested on October 5, meaning he spent a little over a week in jail.
