Man Serving Ten-Year Prison Sentence After Child Sex Offenses
Update | April 19, 2026: Updated article to reflect outcome of case.
In June 2025, Alex Michael Sellers, 28, pled guilty to 29 charges relating to the electronic distribution of obscene material, obscene communication and criminal solicitation.
Judge William Davis sentenced Sellers to ten years in prison followed by 15 years of sex offender probation.

As of April 2026, Sellers is at the Northwest Florida Reception Center Main Unit.

Sellers initially faced nearly three dozen more related charges but they were dropped.

Sellers was arrested on October 3, 2024. The arrest report shows Sellers solicited and obtained CSAM from other users identifying themselves as minors.

In a downward departure memorandum presented by Sellers' defense, it states a doctor found Sellers "is of high intelligence, has a 'typical for someone his age' 10% risk to reoffend, and is amenable to treatment for pedophilic disorder." The doctor recommended that Sellers continue psycho sexual treatment.
"If you do something wrong enough times, it just becomes normal," - Alex Sellers

The downward departure memo attempts to paint a sympathetic picture of Sellers but admits that he "found himself attracted to minors" and "began to search for and solicit child pornography." The memo states Sellers "knew he needed help, but did not know where to look for it."
Sellers said that "boredom" was a "large part" of his "addiction."
Sellers' psychosexual evaluation from March 2025 states, "Mr. Sellers does not have a criminal mentality; he lacks the traits typically associated with a psychopath. He is able to appreciate another person's perspective and take responsibility for his actions. He does not have a callous nature, pathological lying, or a parasitic lifestyle. In contrast, he does have a number of protective factors which would reduce his future risk, such as prosocial community supports and influences, motivation to change, emotional regulation skills, and financial and residential stability through his parents. He was able to speak about what harm he did to others in sharing CSAM. Mr. Sellers is a good candidate for a competent community-based treatment program for adult sex offenders. He should be required to successfully complete this treatment, understanding that this will most likely take four years. Following the results of this evaluation, Mr. Sellers began sex offense therapy with Alvin Butler, LMHC. Their work has included arousal reconditioning, as well as reducing risk factors and increasing protective factors."
The evaluation states Sellers "admitted to a sexual interest in children and tween[s]."
Sellers reportedly "explained that the dark web began shutting down, so he went other places, such as discord or teleguard, to find new CSAM. He admits he would trade CSAM in order to obtain new images, which is a common practice. At times he would pretend to be a 12- year-old girl and talk to adult men. He would then send 'her' nudes to the adult men. Mr. Sellers said he did not find this arousing and he does not know why he did this. When Mr. Sellers texted with individuals who said they were a teen, he often suspected they were an adult pretending to be a minor because he had done this. Mr. Sellers denied having a sexual conversation via the web with an adult, while he was a child. Mr. Sellers was asked what the psychological impact would have been, if he shared CSAM/asked for nudes with an actual 12 or 15 year old. He said he would have 'been manipulating them because I was an adult' and it would have caused psychological problems as a result."
The evaluation goes on to say, "Mr. Sellers' sexual adjustment scale was in the severe range; his sex life is frustrating and unsatisfying. His child molest scale was in the problem range; he does have a sexual interest in children. Mr. Sellers' sexual assault scale was in the low risk and his exhibitionism scale was in the low end of the medium risk range; he is not an exhibitionist. Mr. Sellers will need counseling for deviant sexual interests."
The psychosexual evaluation from June 2025 said Sellers "guesstimates" that when he looked at porn, he was looking at CSAM "15-20 percent of" the time. The evaluation says Sellers' "visual reaction testing shows some interest in adult and teenage females."
